Wang Huansheng, is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Foreign Literature, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences , recognized as a foundational figure in China’s classical studies lineage. As the academic heir of Mr. Luo Niansheng (1904–1990), a pioneer in China’s classical studies and research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, he has his primary research focusing on ancient Greek and Roman language and literature, with special emphasis on Homeric epics and Cicero’s prose. To date, he has published approximately 6 million characters of translated works and scholarly publications. His translations include Iliad (completing lines 476 of Book 10 to Book 23 after Mr. Luo Niansheng’s passing), Odyssey, Aeschylus’s Complete Tragedies and Menander’s Comedies in The Complete Works of Ancient Greek Drama, Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations, Aesop’s Fables, Lucian’s Zeus Tragoedus and Dialogues of the Dead , and several of Cicero’s key works: On the Orator, On the Republic, On the Laws, On Old Age, On Friendship, On Duties, and Tusculan Disputations Book I . Wang has also led and contributed to The Complete Works of Ancient Roman Drama, translating The Complete Plays of Plautus, The Complete Plays of Terence, The Complete Plays of Seneca, Propertius’s Elegies, and selections from Livy’s History of Rome (selected paragraphs in Books 1–10, 21–30, 31–45). His monographs include A History of Ancient Roman Literature , Roman Literary Criticism: Outline of History , Ancient Roman Myths and Legends, and An Introduction to "On the Republic".
