Ninety years after Giuseppe Vandelli's undertaking (1921-28), the textual revision of Dante's poem and his interpretative commentary are presented here in an organic whole, along the lines of a reading faithful to the great masters of twentieth-century criticism and nonetheless attentive to the most recent contributions. Special care for the clarity and readability of the notes is intended to encourage their use by younger readers. In the Inferno, Dante and his master, Virgil, lead us on an extraordinary journey through the great passions (eros, patriotic love, desire for knowledge, love for children...) of Francesca, Farinata, Ulysses, Ugolino and the other characters who, although imprinted in everyone's memory, always know how to offer, from reading to reading, new discoveries and emotions.
